Naruhiko Kawaguchi was born in Morioka and grew up in Yokohama, Japan. He graduated summa cum laude with a Master’s degree in Early Music from Tokyo University of the Arts and the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. He is the prizewinner of the 1st International Chopin Competition on Period Instruments, the International Competition Musica Antiqua Bruges 2016, and the 1st Rome Fortepiano International Competition. He has performed fortepiano recitals at the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, the “Chopin and his Europe” Festival (Warsaw), the Monteverdi Festival (Cremona) and the Festival Oude Muziek Utrecht, among others. He is also passionate about Spanish music and has released two CDs entitled Road to Goya’s Era, featuring piano works from Goya’s time performed on historical pianos. In 2027, he will perform Joaquín Rodrigo’s Concierto heroico with the Osaka Symphony Orchestra and Motonori Kobayashi in its Japanese premiere.
