In the words of Maestro Zubin Mehta: “Cristina is one of the very few people who have reached the very top of their profession on the harp.” Winner of First Prize at the Torneo Internazionale di Musica in Rome, First Prize at the 32nd Concorso Internazionale di Arpa Premio Valentino Bucchi, as well as four further international awards and numerous national prizes, Cristina Montes Mateo has established herself as one of the leading harpists of her generation. She appears regularly as a soloist with major orchestras around the world. In 2024, she was appointed Principal Harp of the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, becoming the first Spanish harpist to join the ensemble. She is also a regular guest soloist and collaborator with the Münchner Philharmoniker, the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and the Los Angeles Philharmonic. Her most notable recordings include the album Obras para arpa, featuring eleven world premieres by Spanish female composers, and, more recently, Voyage, which received widespread critical acclaim. Cristina is currently based in Los Angeles, where she combines her solo career with recording sessions in Hollywood studios, performing on the music for dozens of film and television productions, including Avatar: The Way of Water and Ghostbusters.
