BEETHOVEN Triple Concerto
As part of the celebration of Beethoven Year 2027, this concert brings together three works that reflect the extraordinary creative breadth of the German composer, from concertante music to religious and choral expression. The Triple Concerto, a unique score within his catalogue, transforms the violin, cello and piano into a true chamber ensemble that engages in dialogue with the orchestra through a balance as refined as it is innovative.
The Mass in C major, composed in 1807 for Prince Esterházy, reveals a Beethoven who approaches the liturgical tradition from a personal perspective, combining solemnity, lyricism and intense expressive power. Far removed from the monumental character of the later Missa solemnis, the work stands out for its formal clarity and for the warmth of its vocal and orchestral writing.
The programme is completed by the Choral Fantasy, one of Beethoven’s most original creations and, like the Mass in C major, a work that will be heard for the first time in the history of Ibermúsica in this concert. Premiered in 1808 at the celebrated marathon concert that also included the first public performances of the Fifth and Sixth Symphonies, the work culminates in a gradual union of piano, soloists, chorus and orchestra. Its finale, built on a theme that clearly anticipates the Ninth Symphony, transforms the score into a luminous celebration of creativity and the humanistic ideal that runs throughout Beethoven’s entire output.
