MAHLER Symphony No. 5
The New York Philharmonic and Gustavo Dudamel present an exciting programme that brings together contemporary creation and one of the cornerstones of the symphonic repertoire. The evening opens with Imágenes mestizas by Tania León, a work commissioned by the orchestra itself, which celebrates the encounter between cultures, traditions and sound worlds through the vibrant and highly personal language of the Cuban-American composer.
The programme culminates with Gustav Mahler’s monumental Symphony No. 5, an ode to death, life and love in five compelling movements, written during a period of profound personal transformation for the composer. From the darkness of the opening funeral march to the luminous affirmation of its finale, the Fifth unfolds as an intense emotional journey, reaching one of its most poignant moments in the celebrated Adagietto, one of the most memorable pages in the history of music.
